The Mission is headed by Major General Jean-Marie Michel Mokoko, of the Republic of Congo, as the AU Special Representative of the Chairperson of the AU Commission (SRCC) in the Central African Republic (CAR). General Mokoko has a long experience in the field of peace and security misssions. He has held the position of Chief of Defence Staff of the Congolese Armed Forces and served as the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the AU Commission in Côte d'Ivoire. General Mokoko is a graduate of the War College in France. Prior to this appointment, he was the AU Deputy High Representative for Mali and the Sahel.
The commander of the military component of MISCA is Major General Martin Tumenta Chomu, of the Republic of Cameroon. General Tumenta Chomu has served as senior commander in the Cameroonian Army. He is a graduate of the Staff College in the United States (Ft. Levenworth) and War College in France.
The Deputy Force Commander is Brigadier-General Athanaze Kararuza of Burundi.
The head of the police component of MISCA is Colonel Patrice Ostangue Bengone of the Republic of Gabon. Colonel Bengone graduated from the National School of Gendarmerie in Gabon. He attended training and career development courses in various other schools, particularly in France and Morocco.
