The UN force due to take over on 15 September 2014 is MINUSCA (the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic). It was established by the UN Security Council on 10 April 2014 by its Resolution 2149, and it subsumed the UN Integrated Peacebuilding Office in the Central African Republic (BINUCA), which had been deployed to the country since January 2010.
MINUSCA will initially comprise up to 10,000 military personnel, including 240 military observers and 200 staff officers, plus 1,800 police personnel, and 20 corrections officers.
On 20 July 2014 the United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, announced the appointment of Major General Martin Tumenta Chomu, the current Force Commander of MISCA, as the Force Commander of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), as of 15 September 2014.
